Latin America in the 1980s, Part 2

During the 1980s, Latin America experienced major changes to state and society. Popular thought, supported by contemporary social scientists, consider this period as the “lost decade.” However, this decade was fundamental in shaping the region’s trajectory and creating the historical foundations of the present moment. Each country went through their own process of change with unique results. Yet, each country also shared many features and outcomes such as the rise of neoliberalism and the exacerbation of inequality.

This session experiments with bringing together shorter presentations on a shared periodical theme in order to build connections across Latin American history. Each presentation will be 10 minutes each, followed by a 10-minute discussion among the panelists about the shared experiences connected to their research focus and how there is scope for collaboration.
