Mexican Studies Section: Beyond (and from) the Nation—Revisiting Mexican History through a Transnational Lens

The roundtable will bring scholars with different aspects of transnational Mexican history, including Latinx-Mexican history, Global South to South relations, and questions of migration, imperialism, and finance. The roundtable seeks to create dialogues about what new methods, interventions, and frameworks have arisen from the transnational turn, the challenges that come from it, and what might be lost or gained. What place does the Mexican state have? How does periodization shift, or not, because of these approaches? How does a transnational approach shape notions of region in Mexican history, and vice versa? Finally, what place does Latinx history have within Mexican scholarship?
