New Historical Approaches to Studies of Fascism, Antifascism, and Gender in Latin America and the Caribbean

In recent years, scholars have increasingly examined intersections of fascism, antifascism, and gender in Latin America and the Caribbean. Yet, much of the research remains fragmented, with European and North Atlantic contexts often dominating the field. This roundtable brings together scholars using new historical approaches to explore how fascism and antifascism took shape across the Americas during the 1920s–40s and beyond, with gender as a central lens. We aim to understand how gendered ideologies and women’s activism shaped far-right movements and resistance, and to ask: What methods best capture the complexities of gendered political activism in these contexts?
