Staying Behind the Wheel! Navigating the Tech-Infused World with the D.R.I.V.E. Model

In the race to use the latest tech tools, it’s easy to feel like we’ve been relegated to the passenger seat while the algorithms take the wheel. Users seem to think “it feels like it's thinking, why not just let it think for me.” But let’s face it: nobody wants a GPS that decides the destination for them! This session is designed to help educators and students reclaim their role as the primary drivers of their own travels with technology. We will explore why a "human-first" approach is the essential fuel for any tech-infused classroom. In the Oregon Trail School District we have designed the D.R.I.V.E. framework, A model for utilizing tools such as an AI as a method to elevate our staff and students tool use. Participants will explore this framework and learn to shift the focus from "what can the tool do?" to "how does this amplify our unique human potential?"
