The Problem: Rigid/Limiting Environments in STEM/Engineering Education

This session explores how rigid STEM environments limit student engagement and belonging. Using survey findings from engineering programs and the lens of heterotopia, we will reimagine learning spaces. Attendees gain strategies and design recommendations to build inclusive, flexible, student-centered environments that promote opportunity, cultural competency, and meaningful engagement.
