CANCELLED BY PRESENTERS 10.1.26 Count Your Carbon is the nation’s first free, full-scope carbon emissions calculator, built for – and in collaboration with – nurseries, schools and colleges. It supports educational settings to calculate, understand, reduce and track their carbon emissions. The online calculator has been built by Eco-Schools, the nation’s largest environmental schools programme, and Arete Zero Carbon, leading carbon consultants and part of the PNZ group. The initiative is supported by Let's Go Zero and used by their Climate Action Advisors. It is enabling school Senior Leadership Teams to create data-led decarbonisation journeys for their Climate Action Plans. With more than 2500 active schools and 1500+ completed calculations (...and counting!), the calculator will enable Eco-Schools to benchmark emissions across the national school's estate by Autumn 2025. Within Count Your Carbon is 'The Playground', a classroom educational resource. The Playground enables pupils and teachers to explore their actual carbon footprint and model the potential carbon reductions/increases of taking action in six key emissions areas - electricity, fuel usage, food, commuting and purchasing. The class can then vote on the areas they want their school to prioritise and give them a voice in their school's climate action planning. This session will introduce Count Your Carbon - it's functions and outputs - and simulate the classroom experience of using The Playground with attendees cast in the role of pupils. Outcomes: •Attendees will understand how to use Count Your Carbon to footprint their emissions – from gathering their data, to creating a calculation, to viewing and filtering their results. •Attendees will understand how to take their results and use the calculator’s recommendations function to produce a bespoke decarbonisation plan for their school Climate Action Plan . •Educators will understand how to use the Playground in the classroom with their pupils, developing young people’s carbon literacy with their school as the real-world context.
