CANCELLED T Level science: Your role in creating a skilled technical workforce for the future

Friday 9 January 2026·2:45 pm

CANCELLED BY PRESENTERS 8.1.26 As the UK faces significant recruitment challenges across the higher education, research, and science industry sectors, there is an urgent need for a steady pipeline of well-prepared, technically skilled individuals. An ageing technical workforce, persistent skills gaps, and rapid advancements in scientific and technical fields mean that schools and colleges must take bold action and adapt their curriculum offers to meet this demand head-on. T Level Science qualifications provide a crucial response, combining demanding academic content that is rigorously and externally assessed, with substantial industry placements to equip students with the practical skills, knowledge, and professional behaviours employers value most. With strong employer engagement at their core, T Levels were introduced by the UK government to bridge the gap between traditional academic study and skilled employment, offering students a high-quality technical alternative that directly responds to sector-specific skills shortages. For science and technical disciplines in particular, where hands-on skills and applied knowledge are vital, T Levels deliver a learning experience that aligns closely with industry requirements and expectations, producing confident, competent, and ambitious students who progress successfully into well-paid technical jobs, higher apprenticeships, or university degrees. This session will demonstrate the vital role T Level Science plays in addressing workforce challenges, showcase practical examples of successful student progression, and encourage providers to embed this qualification in their curriculum offer as a strategic response to local and national skills needs. By the end of the session, delegates will understand the unique features and benefits of T Level Science qualification, gain valuable insights into their positive impact on students’ employability and progression routes, feel equipped to champion and plan for the successful delivery of T Level Science in their own institutions, and be inspired to support a new generation of highly skilled technical professionals who are ready to meet the evolving demands of industry, research, and higher education. With first-hand experience of delivering and assessing the T level curriculum, I can speak confidently and positively about the curriculum, assessment, and placement aspects, and I’m happy to answer any questions in these areas.
