Three crucial changes Physics Partners we made to improve our physics CPD
This session is for anyone involved in science CPD, but also for any teachers from the physics community who wish to come and find out about us. Physics Partners aim to inspire students to love Physics and to engage with its application in the wider world, and any coaching we do with teachers should reflect these ultimate aims. We will introduce each of the three topics with a short talk on our evidence-base, highlight what we think have been the biggest successes, tell participants how they can access the resources, and then invite discussion from the participants - perhaps seeking ideas for what our next steps should be! Physics Partners is an educational charity with a mission to improve physics teaching in state schools. We’ve been around since 2007, but have undergone a period of rapid growth over the last few years, and we now support hundreds of schools, with a wide range of new and experienced physics coaches. As we’ve grown, we’ve learned a few lessons, and had some successes that we are happy to share. Coaching standards - developed in conjunction with our team, this is a set of evidence-informed core standards that we ask new and experienced coaches to agree to. Copyright and IP - developed with help from an intellectual property legal service team, we have written a guide to help resource developers to work efficiently and ethically to create great resources we can share widely. CPD starters - before writing a new series of physics CPD session plans and resources, we went back-to-basics with some fundamental questions about what should be included to help coaches.
