Adapting PBIS and ABA for Complex Learners: A Data-Driven Framework for Private Day School Success

This session shares how a 17-campus private day school adapted PBIS and ABA using real-time, interval-based behavior tracking to support students with complex needs. Participants will explore a scalable framework, analyze data samples, and gain practical strategies to improve consistency, collaboration, and student outcomes across specialized educational settings. Participants will be able to: 1. Explain how PBIS and ABA frameworks were adapted for use in a private day school system serving students with emotional and behavioral disorders and autism. Participants will understand the rationale for modifying traditional tiered models to meet the intensive needs of Tier 3 learners in nontraditional, highly individualized settings. 2. Interpret and apply real-time, interval-based behavioral data to inform interventions and support planning. Participants will analyze sample data and learn how to use it to guide decisions at the student, classroom, and systems levels— enhancing both proactive support and IEP goal alignment. 3. Identify and implement at least two actionable strategies to enhance behavioral data collection and intervention fidelity. Participants will leave with ideas to immediately integrate individualized behavior goals into daily routines and use natural school day intervals to drive consistency and responsiveness in behavioral supports.
