Aligning Reading Comprehension Instruction in Core and Intervention Settings
In this session, teachers will learn how to support students’ reading comprehension by aligning instructional practices across settings (core and intervention) and content areas (English language arts, social studies, science). We will include time for teachers to plan three ways to align instruction when they return to school. Participants will be able to: 1. Explain why nonaligned instruction is problematic for students with reading difficulties. 2. Explain how and why aligned instruction benefits students with reading difficulties. 3. Identify ways to align reading comprehension instruction across settings (i.e., core and supplemental instruction; content area instruction). 4. Plan three “alignment focused” action steps for when you return to school.
