Beyond Compliance: Using Educational Benefit Reviews to Strengthen FAPE and Drive Meaningful Student Outcomes
The Educational Benefit Review is a reflective process that guides school-based teams in collaboratively analyzing the quality and alignment of IEP components over time. This structured approach fosters shared ownership of IEP development and deepens understanding of how instructional decisions impact student outcomes, strengthening both equity and educational benefit.Participants will be able to: 1. Explain the purpose and key components of the Educational Benefit Review (EBR) process, including how it promotes instructional alignment, shared team accountability, and improved IEP quality across multiple years. 2. Facilitate collaborative EBR sessions using structured protocols and analysis tools, enabling school-based IEP teams to identify gaps in alignment between evaluation data, IEP goals, services, and student progress. 3. Implement strategies that foster ownership of the IEP process among all team members, leading to more intentional decision-making and improved educational outcomes for students with disabilities.
