Bridging Research and Practice: Effective Strategies for Supporting Students with Developmental Disabilities

This presentation will discuss evidence-based strategies that teachers and paraprofessionals can use to work with students with developmental disabilities. Data from two systematic reviews and two intervention studies will be presented. These studies cover academic and functional skill interventions. Implications for practice and future directions will also be discussed. Participants will be able to: 1. Describe the current literature and gaps of behavioral support for students with highly intensive needs. 2. Describe the current literature and gaps of mathematics support for students with highly intensive needs. 3. Describe the steps for implementing individual and group coaching as a professional development framework to support the implementation of evidence-based practices; 4. Identify future directions for research and implementation to support practitioners’ use of evidence-based practices for students with ASD, ID, and LD.
