Developing IEPs for English Learners with Language and Reading Disabilities

Individualized Education Plans for English Learners must address students’ language- and disability-related needs simultaneously. An IEP format for planning instruction for ELs with disabilities will be presented. Specific strategies for integrating language development and skill instruction and for providing culturally responsive specialized instruction for ELs will be shared.Participants will be able to: 1. Identify essential elements of IEPs for English Learners. 2. Develop oral language goals and objectives based on analysis of oral language samples of ELs with disabilities. 3. Select instructional strategies to address identified language and literacy gaps.
