Disproportionality in Testing Accommodations

Wednesday 11 March 2026·1:00 pm

This study uses Individualized Education Programs (IEP) data from a small urban school district in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States to analyze the extent to which there is a relationship between student disability label, race, and testing accommodations. We found relationships for multiple accommodation categories.Participants will be able to: 1. Describe the issue of disproportionality in accommodations, understand the evidence from the current study demonstrating disproportionality in a variety of accommodations, and be equipped to approach this issue in IEP meetings. 2. Be well equipped to approach IEP meetings with an equity oriented lens that focuses on understanding an individualized approach to accommodations that uses asset-based thinking to promote access, and maximum inclusion for all students.
