Empowering Student Writers: Perspectives on Self-Regulated Strategy Development Writing Instruction from High Schoolers

Writing is an essential skill for students with learning disabilities to develop. This presentation will explore high school students’ perspectives on learning to write informative essays from teacher implemented Self-Regulated Strategy Development instruction. By integrating student perspectives with research-based findings, attendees will gain practical strategies to refine their writing instruction. Participants will be able to: 1. Describe how SRSD writing instruction can be used to teach high school students with learning disabilities reading and informative writing skills. 2. Articulate the importance of integrating high school students’ perspectives to refine writing instruction. 3. Integrate students’ perspectives with evidence-based instruction to refine writing instruction. 4. Describe the Common Core State Standards requirements for informative reading and writing and pedagogical knowledge for instructing students with learning disabilities.
