From Compliance to Connection: How Principals can Champion Family Engagement in Special Education

Principals play a key role in engaging families in special education. This session, led by the Lead IDEA Center, will offer practical, IDEA-aligned best practices to strengthen family partnerships and foster belonging for students with disabilities.Participants will be able to: 1. Learn legal requirements for engaging families of students with disabilities and keeping them informed of their child’s progress. 2. Explore best practices for involving families and students from pre-referral through eligibility and throughout, as well as and the IEP process. 3. Evaluate and reflect on current individual strengths and needs related to engaging families of students with disabilities.
