GTCrit: Identifying & Empowering Marginalized Gifted Learners in Trying Times of Raids & Fear
This presentation expands a critical race framework in gifted education, "GTCrit," to highlight the systemic exclusion of Black, Latiné, multilingual, and twice/multiply exceptional learners. Emphasizing historical and ongoing marginalization, it offers an urgent call to recognize intersecting injustices and implement culturally sustaining, equity-driven practices in identification and support. Participants will be able to: 1. Describe underlying biases in identification methods used in gifted and advanced education. 2. Discuss how to create a more equitable identification system for learners who are multicultural, multilingual, and multiply marginalized (M4) by identifying methods that are more inclusive towards M4 learners. 3. Define Gifted Critical Race Theory.
