IEP CoPilot: Leveraging Open-Source Resources to Improve Outcomes for Students with Disabilities
Discover how artificial intelligence (AI) can support and enhance the IEP process through data analysis, goal writing, and progress monitoring—while preserving the individualized needs of each student. This interactive session includes real-world examples, ethical AI use demonstrations, and ready-to-use tools to help educators implement AI responsibly and effectively. Participants will be able to: 1. Identify and apply specific AI tools and prompt strategies to streamline key components of the IEP process, including goal writing, data analysis, accommodation suggestions, and progress monitoring—while ensuring compliance with IDEA and FERPA requirements. 2. Evaluate the ethical and legal considerations of using artificial intelligence in special education settings, including how to safeguard student data, maintain human oversight, and ensure that AI supports (rather than replaces) professional decision-making in IEP development. 3. Utilize a ready-to-implement AI toolkit to support team collaboration, reduce time spent on paperwork, and enhance the personalization of IEPs, ensuring alignment with student strengths, needs, and family input.
