Implementing an Early Warning System to Support On-Time Graduation of Students with Disabilities

This session highlights how one school implemented the Early Warning Intervention and Monitoring System (EWIMS) to address chronic absenteeism and course failure. While designed as a whole-school approach, the implementation intentionally includes students with disabilities, ensuring they are part of the solution and not an afterthought in schoolwide success systems.Participants will be able to: 1. Explain the key components of the Early Warning Intervention and Monitoring System (EWIMS) and how they can be adapted to fit a school’s existing staff, systems, and culture. 2. Describe how to build and sustain an effective EWIMS team, including strategies for setting up meeting structures, clarifying staff roles, and creating a process for regularly reviewing data. 3. Understand how EWIMS can be used as a whole-school approach while ensuring that students with disabilities are intentionally included in early identification and intervention efforts. 4. Apply lessons from one school’s implementation experience to strengthen their own data-driven support systems in ways that center equity, feasibility, and shared ownership.
