Let’s Get Curious About Children with Cerebral/Cortical Visual Impairments (CVI)
This session presents research on how professionals and families use reflective practices to support infants and young children with cerebral/cortical visual impairment (CVI), the most prevalent visual condition in children in the United States. Findings suggest that asking the right questions may be as important as understanding CVI.Participants will be able to: 1. Understand how early interventionists and caregivers make sense of CVI using reflective practice and key questions. 2. Recognize the barriers early interventionists and caregivers face in translating existing resources on CVI into practice/care. 3. Return to their schools and districts with culturally relevant reflective practices to improve resources and services specific to children with CVI. 4. Review a professional development on how to be a reflective CVI practitioner; providing participants with examples of evidence-based strategies, such as sentence starters and questions, to support reflection for, in, and on interactions
