Let’s Go! Teaching Travel Skills to Young Adults with IDD

Young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) often face challenges regarding transportation that can impact community engagement (Bross et al., 2024). To support effective travel skill instruction, presenters will share results from a recent study where undergraduate college students were trained as peer interventionists to teach young adults with IDD enrolled in an inclusive post-secondary program to use Google Maps to take public transportation.Participants will be able to: 1. Identify common barriers to community inclusion for young adults with IDD. 2. Explore solutions to transportation barriers for young adults with IDD through recent research. 3. Describe how to use evidence-based practices to teach students how to use Google Maps to ride a bus in their community.
