Making Math Click: Multiple Representations in Intervention

Many students struggle with math reasoning and conceptual understanding, especially when shifting from additive to multiplicative thinking. This session shares how to use multiple representations—concrete, pictorial, and abstract—during mathematics intervention that leads to improved outcomes for students.Participants will be able to: 1. Identify and apply multiple representations—concrete, pictorial, and abstract—in mathematics interventions to deepen students’ mathematical thinking and conceptual understanding. 2. Use concrete manipulatives (i.e., hands-on tools) to effectively demonstrate operations—addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division—with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. 3.
