Math Words: Five Ways to Practice Math Vocabulary!

Teachers will learn five instructional practices to build students’ mathematics vocabulary in the elementary grades. First, teachers will learn about the importance of math vocabulary for understanding math content. Next, teachers will learn about each practice, receive access to electronic materials to support instruction, and have an opportunity to practice.Participants will be able to: 1. Explain why mathematics vocabulary knowledge supports understanding of mathematics concepts. 2. Identify five ways to teach and/or review mathematics vocabulary. 3. Practice teaching each activities with a partner or small group. 4. Plan 2-3 ways to embed mathematics vocabulary instruction into your existing math block.
