Maximize Behavioral Outcomes Using Trauma-Informed, Neuroscience-Aligned, Neurodivergence-Affirming Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Support Plans
An innovative approach to trauma-informed, neuro-affirming Functional Behavior Assessments and behavior plans digs deeper, assessing root causes of behavior—autonomic nervous system (ANS) dysregulation and lagging neurocognitive skills. Shifting our focus from surface-behaviors to underlying barriers results in a more compassionate, inclusive, effective approach for addressing behavior while avoiding re-traumatization. Participants will be able to: 1. Understand the basic neuroscience behind why traditional FBAs/BSPs often fail to result in improved behavior in students with impacts of trauma, neurodivergence, attachment issues, or other causes of chronic undesired (challenging) behavior. 2. Gain an understanding of elements that must be incorporated to shift from traditional FBAs to a neurobiologically grounded behavior assessment approach that identifies systemic precautions, nervous system dysregulation, and lagging neurocognitive skills as the root cause of why the student is unable to meet expectations, instead of engaging in the undesired behavior. 3. Gain clarity and specific strategies regarding types of BSP approaches that are required to address the needs of a traumatized or neurodivergent student’s autonomic nervous system (both body and brain aspects) to repattern their stress response and build essential neurocognitive skills, leading to more “desired behavior” and improved long-term outcomes.
