Morphology in Action: Teaching Secondary and Adult Learners to Tackle Complex Words
In this session, teachers working with adolescents and adults with word reading difficulties, including dyslexia, will learn evidence-based strategies for integrating morphology into reading instruction. Participants will gain insight into the key components of effective morphology instruction and leave with activities to support their students’ reading and spelling development. Participants will be able to: 1. Identify different types of morphemes in words and recognize how morphology underlines word structure across many languages. 2. Identify components of effective morphology instruction. 3. Create a plan for providing morphology instruction in the context of a reading intervention class, the general education classroom, or an adult education class.
