Multilingualism & Dyslexia: Essential Literacy Practices for Emergent Multilingual Learners with Dyslexia
In this session, educators will learn essential practices for supporting emergent multilingual students with dyslexia or word-level reading difficulties. Participants will explore how to incorporate evidence-based practices into English literacy & biliteracy instruction in dual-language, special education, and ELA classroom settings.Participants will be able to: 1. Identify what instructional evidence-based practices are for EMLS with dyslexia. 2. Create instructions for multilingual learners with dyslexia that consider and include heritage language orthographies, cross-linguistic connection phonics practices, PA, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. 3. Dispel myths and misunderstanding about biliteracy and multilingualism attainment for students with dyslexia.
