"On the Road to Equity: Transportation Solutions for Students with IEPs"
This session explores transportation as a critical related service under IDEA. Participants will examine legal requirements, best practices, and collaborative strategies to ensure equitable access for students with IEPs. Real-world scenarios and solutions will guide special educators in advocating for safe, appropriate, and individualized transportation services for all learners. Participants will be able to: 1. Identify and apply legal requirements related to transportation as a related service under IDEA. 2. Understand when transportation must be included in an IEP, what constitutes an appropriate transportation plan, and how to ensure services meet federal and state compliance standards. 3. Develop individualized transportation plans that address student-specific needs within the IEP process. 4. Use transportation checklists, data collection tools, and collaborative planning methods to learn how to evaluate transportation needs based on factors such as mobility, behavior, health, and accessibility.
