Orton-Gillingham Training for Pre-Service Special Education Teachers: A Collaborative Model
This session will discuss an innovative literacy initiative for special education pre-service teacher preparation involving a partnership among a state Department of Education, a university center, and a university School of Education. Pre-service special education teachers were provided Multi-Sensory Structured Literacy training, year-long coaching, resources, and support with promising results.Participants will be able to: 1. Implement the processes and structures in order to replicate a similar model in their pre-service special education teacher preparation program. 2. Understand the crosswalk between the Orton-Gillingham approach and SDI, SoR, and the HLPs. 3. Understand the impact of collaboration, training, and support on pre-service special education teachers’ literacy knowledge and self-efficacy.
