Social Competence and Inclusion for Individuals with Autism/Developmental Disabilities

This session showcases research and practice-based strategies that enhance engagement and inclusion for individuals with autism and developmental disabilities. Topics include building social connections, promoting social competence, generalization of social skills, and sexuality and relationship education. Collectively, these perspectives highlight tools to support social and relationship development across diverse contexts. Participants will be able to: 1. Describe social challenges for individuals on the autism spectrum. 2. Describe common features of an effective social skills and relationship development programs. 3. Identify strategies for implementing programs that improve social inclusion.
