Special Education (SPED) and English Language Teaching (ELT) Implementing Differentiated Literacy

Wednesday 11 March 2026·3:30 pm

Developing literacy is complex when students are learning to read and speak simultaneously. Join us for an interactive session exploring strategies that build oral and written language together. We’ll share examples from Panama and the U.S. focused on vocabulary and literacy for English learners and students with disabilities.Participants will be able to: 1. Understand research-based criteria for differentiating for oral language characteristics of ELs and those with different English language proficiency levels. 2. Practice the following oral language strategies that target literacy competencies for different language levels, and ages using ready-to-implement online resources: Language Experience Approach (LEA) with Book-After-A-Book, Total Physical Response (TPR) with Oral Interactio, Vocabulary Visuals with actions, and Reader’s Theater.
