Staying Power: Navigating and Promoting Resilience and Teacher Leadership

Resilience and self-care are key protective factors supporting novice teachers’ retention. As they gain experience, special educators develop competencies in which they are often viewed as leaders. This session addresses perspectives of and innovative elements to support leadership and practical strategies to prevent burnout, build cultures and lead with confidence.Participants will be able to: 1. Identify 1-2 possible strategies that could be used to foster teachers’ resilience. 2. Describe and apply elements of innovative teacher leadership to participants’ professional context. 3. Identify how mentorship and fellowship can support the professional growth of teacher leaders.
