Behavior-specific praise is foundational to classroom management, but have you taught students to praise one another yet? Student-delivered praise is a widely researched strategy to increase prosocial behavior in classrooms and residential settings. We review the research on three approaches: positive peer reporting, peer praise notes, and tootling.Participants will be able to: 1. Critically evaluate student-delivered behavior-specific praise (BSP) strategies by analyzing the research evidence supporting Positive Peer Reporting, Peer Praise Notes, and Tootling. Participants will know each as EBP or mixed evidence and how many studies with positive results are emerging. Participants will understand what CEC (2014) standards for EBP are and how they are used in literature reviews to determine EBP status for strategies like student-delivered BSP in special education. 2. Implement student-delivered BSP having gained and role-play practiced the practical skills needed to teach students how to deliver BSP through each of the three structured methods: Positive Peer Reporting, Peer Praise Notes, and Tootling. Attendees will leave with step-by-step implementation guidance, tips, and lists of materials needed to begin using these strategies in their own settings the following week. 3. Enhance their classroom climate after being empowered with knowledge and skills needed to integrate student-delivered BSP into their broader classroom management system.
