Supporting Functional Communication in the Classroom

Focus on research that identifies Core Word usage as evidence based practices for teaching functional communication to complex special education students. They will solidify the relationship between communication and behavior, engage in activities that promote learning of Core Words, and create a Core Word activity to be implemented in classrooms. Participants will be able to: 1. Understand the research that identifies Core Word usage as an EBP for teaching functional communication. 2. Understand the relationship between communication and behavior. 3. Engage in activities that promote the learning of Core Words. 4. Create a Core Word activity that can be implemented in their classroom.
