TAG Showcase: Trellis and Blossom with Roots: Designing for Strengths and Supports in Twice-Exceptional Education

Learn how to use the Trellis and Blossom with Roots model to design instruction that builds on student strengths while addressing learning needs. This session equips special educators with practical tools for developing flexible, strengths-based IEPs and classroom plans that help twice-exceptional learners grow with purpose, support, and challenge.Participants will be able to: 1. Identify the core components of the Trellis and Blossom with Roots model and explain how it applies to twice-exceptional learners in special education settings. 2. Design lesson plans or IEP elements that integrate student strengths alongside targeted supports, using strategies aligned with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and strengths-based planning. 3. Apply the Trellis and Blossom framework to revise an existing instructional plan, IEP goal, or learning environment to better serve twice-exceptional students through flexible structure and purposeful challenge.
