Teaching Computational Thinking to Special Education Students and Research Demonstrating its Efficacy

This presentation will report on a single-case study that evaluated the effectiveness of teaching algorithmic computational thinking concepts to special education students. It will also demonstrate the method used in the study to teach computational thinking - explicit instruction (an evidence-based practice) and interleaved worked examples.Participants will be able to: 1. Learn how to develop code in the Scratch programming language to create a simple video game that their students can play. 2. Learn how to teach coding to special education students using explicit instruction and worked examples.
