Transition Planning for Students with Deafblindness: What Do Teachers, Parents, and IEPs Tell Us?

Students with multiple disabilities, including deafblindness, have historically poor post-school outcomes (e.g., employment, independent living, social connections). Using the Indicator 13 checklist, statewide parent and teacher surveys, and IEP analysis for students, 14-22, we sought to determine strengths and areas of need. Practice with the Indicator 13 checklist will occur. Participants will be able to: 1. Describe transition needs of students who have multiple impairments, including deafblindness, and quality of IEPs related to Indicator 13 Checklist. 2. Describe teacher and parent perceptions of transition plan quality and related IEP process. 3. Apply practical strategies for quality transition practices and IEP development based on the Indictor 13 checklist and results of the research presented.
