Understanding the Reading and Language Needs of English Learners with Dyslexia
English Learners with dyslexia face challenges in acquiring reading strategies that support their disability while learning a new language. The intersection of these two needs complicates the effective teaching of English Learners. This session will present evidence-based strategies for supporting dyslexia in English Learners and robust oral language development strategies.Participants will be able to: 1. Enhance their understanding of evidence-based dyslexia reading strategies for English Learners (ELs). 2. Grasp the connection between oral language and literacy development for ELs with dyslexia to promote increased achievement. 3. Discover how to incorporate differentiated linguistic scaffolds and accommodations into reading instruction and intervention for ELs with dyslexia.
