Understanding the State’s Role: How SEAs Shape Gifted Education Policy and Practice

With no federal mandate for gifted education, states play a critical role in shaping identification, services, and accountability. This session explores how State Education Agencies support gifted programming through policy guidance, technical assistance, and monitoring, and how educators can engage with SEA structures to strengthen services for advanced learners.Participants will be able to: 1. Explain the unique role of State Education Agencies (SEAs) in gifted education, especially in the absence of a federal mandate, and how SEA responsibilities vary across states. 2.
