Unlocking Communication: A Beginner’s Guide to Augmentative and Alternative Communication in the Classroom

In this presentation we will provide an overview of augmentative and alternative communication to support students with complex communication needs. We will discuss classroom integration strategies, and the importance of collaboration among educators, therapists, and families to create inclusive, communication-rich environments where every student can be heard. Participants will be able to: 1. Identify what is AAC and ways to use AAC systems in classroom settings 2. Identify and implement academic and behavioral supports for AAC users in the classroom 3. Collaborate more effectively with related professionals regarding AAC use in the classroom.
