Using Data-Based Individualization to Support Students with Dyslexia

Data-based individualization (DBI) is a research-based process for individualizing and intensifying interventions for students with intensive needs. This session will provide a practical example of how a program in Los Angeles Unified School District is using data-based individualization to support students with dyslexia, including success and challenges.Participants will be able to: 1. Identify the steps of DBI including features of validated intervention programs, validated progress monitoring tools and practices (e.g. how to set a goal and use evidence-based decision rules for when to change an intervention), collecting and using diagnostic data to develop a hypothesis for why a student is not making adequate progress, and adapting interventions to match the developed hypotheses. 2. Describe how DBI can be used to support students with reading difficulties.
