Using Data-Based Individualization to Support the Identification of Students with Specific Learning Disabilities

Data-based individualization (DBI) is a research-based process for individualizing and intensifying assessment and intervention for students with the most intensive needs. This session will describe how data collected through the DBI process can help identify students with specific learning disabilities.Participants will be able to: 1. Describe how data-based individualization (DBI) can be used as part of a comprehensive evaluation for specific learning disabilities including how to. 2. Ensure provision of intensive interventions to rule out lack of instruction. 3. Utilize formal progress monitoring data that can be compared to the performance of peers and shared with parents. 4. Identify strategies for increasing the student’s rate of learning when progress is not sufficient.
