Write That Down! Supporting Emergent Writing for Students with Multiple Challenges
Writers write across the day using the full alphabet, for many purposes in various environments. Students with multiple challenges require the same opportunities in an accessible, engaging and “do-able” format. With the right alternative pencil, the right activities, and the right feedback – these students can become generative writers.Participants will be able to: 1. Describe at least four alternative pencils for individuals who have difficulty accessing the alphabet, and match them to student needs. 2. Propose at least three activities for generative writing throughout the day for emergent learners, including students with multiple challenges. 3. Formulate at least three strategies for providing evaluative feedback to emergent writers regarding their writing samples that 'don't spell anything.'
