Character Education vs. Social Emotional Learning: Building Inclusive Classrooms that Serve All Students, Pre-K–12
This interactive session explores the relationship between Character Education and Social Emotional Learning (SEL)—two approaches that share common goals but differ in philosophy and practice. Participants will examine how these frameworks intersect and diverge, and how each can be implemented equitably to serve students from all cultural and ability backgrounds. Through discussion, reflection, and real-world scenarios, attendees will identify strategies for integrating character development and SEL to promote inclusive, whole-child education. Participants will leave with practical tools, ready-to-use classroom ideas, and a deeper understanding of how to nurture both the hearts and minds of all learners.
