Explicit Vocabulary Instruction for Every Learner: Unlocking Language Layers through the POSSUM Approach
Part of Engaging Educators 2026
Monday 2 February 2026·6:30 pm
Build stronger, more comprehensive vocabulary instruction with the POSSUM framework—an accessible, research-aligned approach that engages all six layers of language: Phonology, Orthography, Syntax, Semantics, Understanding, and Morphology. In this interactive session, participants will explore explicit vocabulary routines using the POSSUM approach through both elementary and middle-school examples. They will develop a plan for integrating this routine into daily instruction and leave with ready-to-use tools and a clear understanding of how POSSUM supports deep word learning.
