Poster 3: The AI Dilemma: Preserving Human Connection While Protecting Privacy
How can AI make humans more vulnerable to privacy threats and potentially compromise the trust we have in other humans? How can we help our students be aware of the implications of sharing so much of our data? This session will demonstrate the basic foundational lessons we need students to understand to be safe in the world. We will debate the merits of big data collection and privacy considerations without inducing a student snoozefest. We start with real-life examples of technology in our world and how we, as humans, fall for potentially unsafe practices because of our desire to connect and share with others. While AI technology is certainly helpful in so many ways, how can we help our students understand the risks associated with its ever-present surveillance and the data that it collects? We will demonstrate interactive lessons debating facial recognition and our relationships with chatbots. Educators will walk away with strategies to help students understand how to be responsible and ethical consumers and creators of tech.
