Accessing Minecraft Education: or, How to Punch Trees in Your Classroom

Part of GETCA 2026
Friday 27 February 2026·5:20 pm

Are you interested in opportunities to build classroom models without the classroom mess? Does the topic of ‘resource extraction’ interest to you? Do you and/or the children you teach yearn for the mines? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then come to this session and learn all about Minecraft Education and how to use it as a teaching tool in your classroom. Minecraft Education is a special edition of the popular game and cultural hit Minecraft. It is designed to operate in classroom settings, and it comes with a host of special tools that keep it safe and teacher-friendly so that you can incorporate Minecraft into the lessons you teach. For four years I have been using Minecraft Education in my classroom for fun and engaging lessons, and to allow creative project work among my students. This session will give an overview of Minecraft Education and showcase some educational activities that I have used myself in the classroom. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions about implementation, and how to get it set up and running in your own classroom.
