Beyond the Red Pen: Leveraging AI Tools for Instant, Personalized Writing Coaching

Part of MACE 2026
Friday 6 March 2026·2:00 pm

Discover how AI becomes a valuable asset through this practical, hands-on exploration of the writing feedback loop in the classroom. In this presentation, participants will actively engage with AI-driven feedback, switching between the roles of student (where they will complete writing samples in various AI platforms) and teacher (where they will analyze data). Participants will use free or freemium tools such as Snorkl and Magic Student as students, which offer specific feedback on any writing assignment. They will also learn about and gain access to Project AI SCORE, a free informative writing AI-supported progress monitoring system that provides automatic, timely, and specific feedback. Participants will learn how to effectively use the data generated by these tools to drive instruction. This will include participating in a collaborative data walk and a mock writing conference to practice leveraging insights provided by the various feedback tools for targeted intervention. Finally, teachers will have the opportunity to explore our companion website, www.writingclassroom.org, which offers instructional supports for teaching essential writing strategies, including graphic organizers and videos.
