Human Insight + AI Amplification: Rethinking Purposes, Strategies, and Assessments in K-12 Classrooms
As artificial intelligence becomes an everyday tool for students, teachers face new challenges: Why do my classes still matter when AI can generate answers instantly? How should what and how I teach evolve in a world of AI? This session explores how human insight and AI amplification can work together to reshape learning across all disciplines. Educators will examine how AI can amplify thinking, deepen understanding, foster creativity, and support stronger reasoning—while also making the case that human judgment, creativity, and disciplinary knowledge remain fundamental. Participants will learn practical concepts for reframing the nature of their teaching: Clarify the human purposes of each discipline, including sense-making, judgment, ethical reasoning, pattern recognition, creativity, and conceptual understanding.Design learning experiences that use AI for brainstorming, modeling, feedback, and analysis while preserving the essential human work of interpretation, argumentation, explanation, and creation.Transform assessments by shifting from recall-based tasks to thinking performances that require explanation, decision-making, real-world application, evaluation of AI-produced responses, and oral or collaborative demonstrations of understanding.Attendees will leave with clear language for explaining to students why human knowledge and skills still matter; simple, classroom-ready strategies for integrating AI into learning; and practical examples of redesigned tasks and assessments that require both AI competence and human judgment.
