Ensuring a Meaningful and Positive Music-Making Experience for LGBTQ+ Students
Our LGBTQ+ youth are a vibrant and essential part of our school music community, and they need and deserve thoughtful consideration when planning and leading rehearsals, performances, and other music-related activities. In this workshop, educators will be reminded of the needs that LGBTQ+ students share with their straight and cisgender classmates. We will discuss a range of topics that arise in instrumental and choral settings, including a review of best practices for teaching and directing singers who are transitioning, as well as other scenarios educators commonly navigate when working with LGBTQ+ students. The workshop will conclude with a Q&A session.
