Bounce, Play, Grow: Teaching Basketball the Jr. NBA Way

Bring energy, fun, and modern basketball instruction to your elementary PE program! This active, hands-on session introduces teachers to Jr. NBA–inspired drills, mini-games, and teaching strategies designed for students of all abilities—from complete beginners to confident young athletes. Grounded in Canada Basketball’s LTAD model and a discovery-based teaching approach, this session demonstrates how to build fundamental movement skills, confidence, and a love of the game through fast-paced, low-setup activities that work in real-world gym settings. Participants will learn how to:Teach essential basketball skills using simple, effective progressions Modify games for large classes and limited equipment Maximize engagement with no-lines, high-repetition activities Embed teamwork, leadership, and cooperation into every lesson Create a positive, inclusive environment that encourages participation and confidence Bring the structure and fun of Jr. NBA into everyday PE classes Teachers will leave with ready-to-use activities, class-tested mini-games, and practical strategies they can implement immediately in K–6 PE—whether they are experienced coaches or brand new to basketball.
